About Me

Permutate, Permeate, Percolate.

Over the past several years I have been contemplating these words and how they pertain to my work both as a conscious practice and as an intuitive response.

I became interested in the intersection between design, color and painting while I was a a Masters of Architecture student. As a professional architect I leaned into interiors and gained a hands on understanding of light and color through use of materials and palettes in corporate and residential projects. During my seventeen year tenure as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Pratt Institute I taught in both the Interior Design Department and the Foundation Department. My studios focused on two-dimensional and spatial color and design for undergraduate as well as graduate students. I began painting anew a decade ago.

My work weaves actual and invented spaces with rigorous surface and volume color study. I work in flat acrylic paint on canvas and paper using architectural and painterly techniques. Most pieces are derived from photographs that capture day-to-day observations of light and shadow. I also create smaller paintings, prints, collages and weavings which serve as studies for larger and more visually complex investigations.

The more I learn, the less I know.
